Knowledge of the Treaty of Waitangi and its implications for practice is critical to working effectively within the education sector. Designed for teachers and school staff this introductory workshop provides an understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi in the context of education.
Through this 3 hour workshop participants will:
- gain a basic understanding of why we have a Treaty, what it says, colonisation, and some current Treaty issues
- build their understanding of the relevance and implications of the Treaty to their work within the education sector.
Each workshop is tailored to the specific context of the school and can be delivered as 3 x 1 hour sessions to fit within staff meetings, or as a half-day workshop.
“The sessions laid the framework for staff to consider the importance The Treaty has on our work as educators and the practical steps we can take to incorporate what we learned, both in our school community and in the classroom with our students. They have made a lasting impression staff and we cannot recommend them highly enough.”
