He moana pukepuke e ekengia e te waka

A choppy sea can be navigated

Ngā mihi o te Ngahuru ki a koutou katoa,

2026 began with our team attending and supporting Waitangi Day events both at Waitangi and in Te Whanganui a Tara – where the energy for learning and people’s support for Te Tiriti was positive and strong. This feeling was reflected too in the recent results of the Te Kāhui Tika Tangata annual survey on awareness, understanding and attitudes to Te Tiriti.

Since February we’ve been busy creating a new workshop in response to the need of organisations, which we have just released. The new self-paced Applying Te Tiriti workshop closely replicates the facilitated workshop experience and makes our transformational content more widely accessible. The workshop draws on our extensive experience over many years working alongside organisations to develop and strengthen Te Tiriti honouring action. We share details of the workshop content and how you can gain direct access to this workshop in this pānui.

This year marks a decade since the release of the report of Matike Mai Aotearoa, prompting us to focus our efforts for constitutional transformation for Aotearoa. We share reflections and resources to support this important kaupapa.

We’ve recently farewelled Darryn Ooi and wish him well as he heads overseas. Darryn’s made an important contribution to Groundwork in the last few years and his facilitation has been appreciated by workshop participants. We welcome Louise Chamberlain who’s joining us as a workshop support facilitator.

In Tautoko i te Tiriti we outline our deep concern at changes to the Aotearoa New Zealand Histories curriculum, a kaupapa we care greatly about. We encourage you to provide feedback to the government on these changes by 24 April.

Your interest in and action for Te Tiriti honouring in our communities, organisations and within Aotearoa is needed as much as ever. We trust this pānui provides inspiration for your critical mahi.

He mihi maioha ki a koutou katou
Nā mātou
