Ki te kotahi te kākaho, ka whati, ki te kāpuia, e kore e whati.

One toetoe stem will break but if they are together
in a bundle they will never break.

Alone we are vulnerable but united we are strong.

— Kiingi Tāwhiao Pōtatau Te Wherowhero

Ngā mihi o te wā o Hine Raumati ki a koutou katoa,

The words of Kiingi Tāwhiao Pōtatau Te Wherowhero resonate in the powerful, positive action from our communities this year to acknowledge, support and reaffirm tino rangatiratanga and Te Tiriti. This is in the face of unrelenting action by the coalition government to undermine Te Tiriti and attack Māori rights. In this pānui we reflect on and celebrate just some of the flaxroots actions we’re part of in support of Te Tiriti.

These times, as always, remind us of how important it is for people to have fundamental understanding of our history. So, we are offering a holiday special on our Understanding Te Tiriti workshops for individuals. You can also gift our self-paced workshops to others. We’ve included other great summer learning and gift ideas too – including Working As Allies – written by our Kaihautū and needed now as much as ever.

We’ve recently completed the annual update of our self-paced Understanding Te Tiriti (concise) workshop and we share details in this pānui. We’re currently collaborating on resources outlining the key Te Tiriti impacts of local government and resource management reforms, along with curriculum changes which have major impacts on Aotearoa New Zealand history content. We’ve included initial information in this pānui and will provide more details in early 2026 of key issues and actions you can take.

Finally, we’ve had over 2400 people engage with our workshops this year and we’re immensely grateful to all the people, and to all the organisations focused on this critical kaupapa. Your care and interest give us hope in these tough times. Ka nui te mihi ki a koutou katoa.

Wishing you a safe and restful summer.

He mihi maioha

Nā mātou, Jen, Victoria, Hannah, Darryn.
